Syed is the Managing Director of iworxs by Palnar GmbH & Co.KG. He started his career with the German company IVL GmbH way back in 1996. He is an honorary representative for the Indo-German chamber of commerce and the Director for the German language and cultural centre, Goethe- Zentrum in Trivandrum. On the academic ground, Syed did his doctorate on Elias Canetti, focusing on the phenomenon of human crowds and power. Notwithstanding the several obstacles in many forms, family and professional engagements, he completed the doctoral work in 2015 and awarded the Ph.D. degree by the university of Kerala on 31st of January 2015.
In October 2015, the German President conferred the civilian honour "Cross of the Order of Merit" (Bundesverdienstkreuz) for his exemplary services to promote Indo-German bilateral relations. A year later, in October 2016, he was appointed the first Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kerala.
